Research project - initial program

An independent three year evaluation by Deakin University has revealed that in international terms, the Notebooks for Teachers and Principals Initiative has been ground breaking.

By June 2002, 91% of all teachers and principals had a notebook computer. Nowhere else in the world, has a government provided this level of support to its teachers and principals to assist them to integrate learning technologies into their daily working lives.

This is reflected by almost 85% of all teachers and principals who have received a notebook computer reporting routine use of computers at school.

Research project - replacement program

In the 2001-02 Budget the government announced the continuous replacement of teacher and principal notebook computers to ensure the benefits of this program are continued.

A further research project was conducted as a requirement of this funding and completed in May, 2003. This evaluation is to be a wide ranging one that considers the success or otherwise of the existing notebooks program as well as being a benchmarking exercise to determine the suitability of the current model of the program.
