A range of services exist to support the adoption and implementation of information and communication technology (ICT), and to ensure students and teachers operate in a secure learning environment.

Administrative systems support

CASES21 - The school administration computer system used by Victorian government schools to support their administration and financial management.

VASS (Victorian Assessment Software System) (http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/schooladmin/VASS/vass.html) - A web-based system used by all VCE, VCAL and VET providers to enrol students and record results. Details include VASS deadlines, hardware requirements, and guidelines for data entry of school assessments.

ICT Products and Services Pricing Schedules - Details include list of suppliers of desktop computers, printers and scanners, file servers, uninterruptible power supplies and leasing facilities available to schools.

Information and communication services for staff

EduLibrary - Electronic Document Repository An online electronic library of department publications, which enables school staff and VET providers to view documents online, print or save copies of documents to their local environment. Includes access to official mail and circulars, guidelines, manuals and forms as well as curriculum material.

EduMail - Electronic Messaging Service. The EduMail service, established in 1998, is an electronic messaging system that is available to over 70,000 staff and teachers in Victorian Government schools and Departmental sites.

DEECD@Work - Intranet Delivery Service - The DEECD@Work Intranet is a secure website providing access to information, web links, forms and online business processes, accessible 24 hours a day from home and other remote locations for authorised users.

Networks (LANs, WANs and Internet)

Local Area Networks in Schools - wireless - Explains policies and standards, installation and networking and provides answers to frequently asked questions as well as links.

VicSmart - An $89.3 million initiative providing a fibre optic broadband network to all Victorian Government schools as part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to making broadband happen and is supported by network partner, Telstra.

Management of Internet Resources - Lists some strategies to manage internet traffic within schools, especially in relation to schools obtaining increased bandwidth through VicSmart. 

Programs supporting computers in schools

Computers in Schools - Details of the initiatives to enhance the use of computers in schools, including the construction of computer ‘pools’ in all secondary schools and the grants available to upgrade ICT equipment.

ICT Grants - Explains funds available and how IT grants should be spent, to assist schools with sustaining and refreshing their ICT equipment.

National Secondary School Computer Fund (NSSCF) - The Commonwealth Government’s NSSCF initiative is designed to improve access to computers for students in Year 9-12. Notebooks for Teachers and Principals Program - A program that provides notebook computers on three-year replacement cycles, to encourage principals and teachers to use them in the classroom and administration of schools.

Schools Census Data - Statistics relating to the results of the annual census of computers in schools. 

Software - information about software licensing in schools, including copyright policy, anti-virus software and Software for Education (S4E) programs.

Technical Support to Schools Program (TSSP) - information on Department assistance to schools to support their IT environment.

 

Security

ICT Security Policy - provides a synopsis of the Department's information, communication and technology security policy. The purpose of this policy is to ensure users understand security requirements when using Department computer facilities and services.
