Workplace Learning

Purpose of this policy

To ensure that key parties below are aware of and comply with all workplace learning requirements, legislation and policies, ensuring students are provided with a safe and rewarding work placement:

• principals
• careers and workplace learning coordinators in schools,
• workplace learning coordinators in Local Learning and Employment Networks (LLENs) areas
• parents
• employers and workplace supervisors.

Policy

Principals and schools must comply with all the requirements of Part 5.4 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 and Ministerial Orders 55 (Structured Workplace Learning) and 382 (Work Experience).

Schools must also refer to the appropriate program link below:

• Work Experience (WE) – refer to Ministerial Order 382, WE Arrangement Form, WE manual, revised health and safety guidelines for WE students under 15 years and revised health and safety guidelines for WE students 15 and over see: Work Experience
• Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) – Refer to Ministerial Order 55, SWL Arrangement Form, SWL manual see: Structured Workplace Learning
• School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs).

Program and support services

Occupational health and safety resources have been developed to ensure that schools adequately prepare students for the risks and hazards they may face in the workplace see: Occupational Health and Safety Resources.

Workplace Learning Coordinators located in each LLENs geographic area assist in the development of workplace learning opportunities suitable for students undertaking Structured Workplace Learning (SWL), School-Based Apprenticeships or Traineeships (SBATs) or work experience.
