Payment amounts for 2012
The EMA is paid in two instalments, instalment one is paid from March onwards and instalment two is paid from August onwards. In each case the parent or guardian and the school are paid a portion of the entitlement according to the payment table below.
For 2012, the combined applicant and school portion for primary students will be $235.
For 2012, the combined applicant and school portion for secondary students will be $470 (except for students turning 16 during the year in which case a monthly pro-rata amount is paid).

*Student year level (or age for ungraded and special school students) will form the basis for calculating the amount payable to parents and schools.
EMA for students who turn 16 during the year
For students who turn 16 during 2012 a pro-rata payment of the EMA is payable calculated on the number of months of eligibility up to and including the month that the student turns 16.
For example: If a student turns 16 during April, the parent and guardian and the school will receive 4/12 of the yearly amount in the first instalment and nothing in the second instalment. If a student turns 16 in November, the parent and guardian and the school will receive 6/12 of the yearly amount in the first instalment and 5/12 of the yearly amount in the second instalment.
