This information is being provided specifically for those schools participating in the Leading Responsibly in a Digital World: Student Summit. The Summit is being held at the MCG, Melbourne on Monday October 12, 2009.
The Summit is an element of the KnowledgeBank: Next Generation project, a major education initiative supported by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development (Multimedia Victoria) and the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.
The key purpose of the Summit is to involve students as partners of the DEECD as it continues to develop and refine its policies and practices around the responsible use of digital technologies. This will be made possible through seeking student voice and developing an understanding of their view of a digital world.
During the summit students will discuss the academic, social and wellbeing potential of new technologies and the issues that affect them as citizens of the digital age. They will have the opportunity to reflect on the role that students may play in promoting responsible and ethical use of digital technologies at home and at school.
Teachers coming with their students will have the opportunity for focused professional learning regarding strategies to support their students back at school. Teacher workshops will present recent research in effective and responsible use of digital technologies in a learning environment. It will be an opportunity to network with other teachers, and access resources and support materials to assist in developing school practices and policies around responsible online behaviour.
Students will be called to make a declaration about what it takes to lead responsibly in a digital world, and commit to taking an authentic leadership role back at their school.
