Working with the Web
A guide to ethical and safe use of the internet in Victorian schools
Working with the Web provides a guide, recommendations and resources to support:
- development of school policy and practices surrounding cyber safe and ethical use of the internet
- management and use of the internet across the school including the school website
- online legalities including digital copyright and online privacy
- curriculum planning and the internet.
The significance of the internet, its cultural implications and the impact of web 2.0 technologies have meant that school policy and practices need to be considered for their currency, relevance and effectiveness. The school internet environment must provide rich and safe resources which support student learning.
The Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) defines the 'essential knowledge, skills and behaviours students need to prepare for further education, work and life' in its introduction. This includes explicit education around the safe and ethical use of the internet to prepare students for their own lives using this resource safely and ethically.
