Learning in the Interpersonal Development domain supports students to learn skills in creating and maintaining positive relationships with others. Language learning provides many opportunities for students to learn and apply the skills of this domain:

• relating to people of other cultures, with varying interests, values and beliefs;
• being aware of the social conventions and responsibilities that underpin the formation of effective relationships;
• presenting their own ideas and listening to those of others;
• working co-operatively and effectively in groups to complete tasks;
• managing and resolving conflicts.

LOTE learning is more effective when students consciously work on the skills of co-operation and collaboration, and are attuned to the social and cultural conventions which underpin relationships between people.

LOTE work lends itself to opportunities for skill-building in both dimensions of Interpersonal Development.
