Why a multi-domain approach in LOTE?
The three strands of the VELS curriculum are designed to be integrated. Language learning is enhanced when it is also
- individualised learning, which meets the needs, abilities and interests of the student
- holistic learning, which acknowledges the student as a whole person
- responsible learning, where students take the initiative and aim for independence
- connected learning, where they deepen their understanding and knowledge by making connections with concepts learned in other disciplines
- digital learning, where students make the most of technology
- 21st century learning, where they gain the social, communication, thinking and problem-solving skills which they will need in the wider community and workplace
The Principles of Learning and Teaching support a multi-domain approach. Your students will learn best when:
- The learning environment promotes independence, interdependence and self-motivation
- Students' needs, backgrounds, perspectives and interests are reflected in the learning program
- Students are challenged and supported to develop deep levels of thinking and application
- Learning connects strongly with communities and practice beyond the classroom
