Case studies of Teacher Practice
A major feature of Knowledge Bank is to collate and present authentic, contemporary accounts of teachers trialling innovative ‘next’ practices. Building on an archive of over 900 case studies, “Case studies of Teacher Practice” is a place for teachers to present their experiences of innovation and next practice in the context of the Victorian schooling system. “Case studies of Teacher Practice” are sourced from aligned initiatives such as the Teacher Professional Leave program, emerging technology trials, or other projects funded through the DoE. We also welcome teachers to submit unsolicited case studies of their own educational innovations (see below for more information on submitting a case study).
Participants of the Teacher Professional Leave program have agreed to share their learning in a number of ways, including the publication of a TPL case study on Knowledge Bank. TPL case studies from 2008 are progressively being published on Knowledge Bank, from May 2009 onward.
Over time, these case studies will act as both a starting point and a record for teachers and other educators, to exchange and inspire others on the power of innovation in schools, with examples that are grounded in authentic classroom practices and are applicable to the Victorian context.
How Case Studies are selected
Regardless of where they are sourced, all case studies are selected on their potential to inform practitioners about innovation in schools (how, why, what worked, what did not), with claims of improvement supported by appropriate data.
In addition, we are encouraging authors to present their stories of innovative in a lively, interesting and engaging style – as befits stories of innovative next practices – and, where appropriate, utilises some of the new media Knowledge Bank supports (ranging for example, from text enlivened with digital images to short digital stories).
As part of our quality assurance process, each case study is independently refereed and assessed, before being accepted for publication. If you are interested in refereeing a case study, please contact us indicating your areas of interest and expertise and relevant background details.
How to submit
To assist teachers and others in developing their stories of innovative and next practice, we have developed an easy to follow template and a style guide (click on Knowledge Bank Case Study Template and Guidelines). Case studies not generated through initiatives such as the Teacher Professional Leave scheme, can be submitted directly to the Knowledge Bank team at knowledge.bank@edumail.vic.gov.au (for any queries or assistance, please contact us at the same email address).
