The Department’s CORE Value, “Respect and Diversity”, provides a foundation for the provision of equality in employment opportunities.
As one of Victoria’s largest employers, the Department aims to have a workforce that is fair, inclusive and reflects the diversity of Victorian communities. Such a workforce will be more capable of ensuring its services meet the diverse requirements of Victoria’s students, parents and communities. Managers, principals and employees are expected to model these behaviours in the workplace.
Diversity management is included in corporate, business and strategic planning processes. The Department is required to demonstrate progress towards whole of government diversity requirements. Areas include cultural and linguistic diversity planning, the Disability Action Plan, and Aboriginal Inclusion and Employment Plans. Reporting on whole of government frameworks is included in Annual Reports.
