Applying for Jobs

School Based Jobs

This page provides an overview of the process for applying for principal, assistant principal, teaching and school services officer vacancies.

Applicants, including employees seeking promotion and transfer opportunities, use the Recruitment Online system to view and search for vacancies, access position descriptions, submit their resume to the job seekers’ register (talent pool) and apply online for a specific job vacancy.

Application Process

Applications should be lodged electronically through Recruitment Online by midnight on the advertised closing date. Applicants who are unable to access or use Recruitment Online may submit a written application (hard copy) which must reach the school no later than the advertised closing date. Late applications may be accepted at the discretion of the principal.

Applicants may contact the principal for additional information concerning a vacancy. Contact details will be included in the position description.

Online Resume/Application

Job Seekers are able to create a resume on Recruitment Online by entering personal, education and employment information in a user-friendly, standardised format.

Résumés are created once, either for the purpose of opting-in to a job seekers’ register (talent pool) or to apply for a specific vacancy. If an applicant is genuinely interested and available to work in a school, it is recommended that a resume be submitted to the job seekers’ register (talent pool) which can then be accessed by principals of Victorian government schools seeking to supplement the field of suitable job applicants.

When applying for a job advertised on Recruitment Online, an online resume is required. An applicant for a vacancy is provided with an opportunity to amend their already created résumé (either submitted to a job seekers’ register (talent pool) or used previously to apply for a job vacancy) to reflect the specific requirements of the vacancy.

It is strongly recommended that applicants submit a specific response to the key selection criteria to enhance the quality of their job application. This is included as an attachment, and there is a limit of 300Kb in size. The Recruitment Online system will not accept files that exceed 300 Kb in size.

Applicants will be asked to accept terms and conditions as detailed in the privacy statement and disclaimer prior to submitting a resume or job application.

Schools are encouraged to provide assistance to applicants in lodging an online résumé and application wherever possible.

Applications are confidential and should be made available only to members of the selection panel. The application and accompanying materials become the property of the school.
