Teacher Demand

Victorian government schools particularly need qualified teachers in a range of curriculum areas who are willing to teach where vacancies exist. Over the next few years, it is projected that there will be an annual requirement for an average of approximately 2,000 new teachers.

While secondary teachers are needed over the whole range of school subjects, the areas that have the greatest opportunities for employment include; Mathematics, Science, Languages Other Than English especially Indonesian, Italian, French, Japanese and German), Physical Education and Technology subjects.

Special education teachers and primary teachers with qualifications in Languages Other Than English, physical education or music are much in demand.

These recruitment requirements are often additional to those required to cover attrition and replacement.
