 Career Structure - Education Support Class

The Education Support Class structure is the career structure for support staff in Government Schools in Victoria, Australia.

Education Support Class employees make a valuable contribution to the lives and interests of children through their contribution to school administration and operations and through direct support to teachers and students in the delivery of educational programs. An environment where the contribution that an education support class employee makes to the education of children and the life of a school is recognised, school expectations are clearly stated, and professional development objectives and priorities are effectively identified is essential in positively influencing the professional growth and development of education support class employees.

Education Support Class positions are diverse and cover the delivery of support services that include school administration and operations (e.g. human resources, finance, facilities, grounds maintenance), school support services (e.g. library, laboratory, information technology, out of school care, canteen), direct teaching and student support (e.g. classroom assistance to teachers, careers counselling, student health and wellbeing).

There are two Education Support classification levels with 5 work value ranges, as follows:

Movement of an Education Support Class employee to a higher classification level may only be by way of promotion based on merit selection.

Each salary range within a classification level represents the work value of a position. The work value of a position is determined in accordance with the Dimensions of Work.
