Student Support Services Officers
The student support services program assists children and young people to achieve their education and developmental potential through the provision of specialised support at individual, group, school, network and regional levels. The student support services program was established to:
- support children and young people with additional needs or at risk of disengagement and their families
- strengthen the capacity of schools to engage all students in education.
Student support services staff include psychologists, guidance officers, speech pathologists, social workers, visiting teachers and other related professionals.

Strengthening networks and school communities: Guidelines for student support services are intended for a range of audiences:
- Student support services staff will use them as their main point of reference.
- Schools, networks and regions will find them invaluable in using or overseeing the program.
- Parents will find additional information to help them obtain the best outcomes for their children.
- Students may also find information to help them make best use of their school opportunities.

Strengthening student support services directions paper: The way forward
Following an extensive public consultation process during 2008, Strengthening student support services directions paper: The way forward was developed by the Department in January 2009 to outline the actions and strategies for implementation of the enhanced student support services program.
