Critical Incidents - Information and support

There are a number of organisations available to provide information and support to students, parents/carers and schools, including Victoria Police Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Units, Department of Human Services Child Protection and Centres Against Sexual Assault. Victoria Police Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Units

Victoria Police Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Units are staffed by experienced and qualified police members specially trained to assist with responding to and investigating adult sexual assault and child sexual and physical abuse.

Department of Human Services Child Protection

The Department of Human Services (DHS) operates an after-hours protection service that provides a 24-hour telephone information and referral service. DHS, through its regional centres, has statutory responsibility to investigate complaints of suspected child abuse and neglect.

Centres Against Sexual Assault

The Centres Against Sexual Assault (CASA) are government-funded organisations that provide services on a 24-hour basis to victims of rape or sexual assault. Some of the services provided by CASA are:

  • Counselling
  • Advocacy support
  • Crisis care
  • Support groups
  • Community education and prevention programs
  • Secondary consultation
