Children and young people have the right to participate in an education system which values and promotes safe and respectful attitudes and behaviours and prepares them for successful relationships and interactions in their adult lives.
Schools are already undertaking significant work to promote positive behaviours including tolerance, empathy, fairness and respect. Building Respectful and Safe Schools: A Resource for School Communities provides guidance to schools to prevent and respond to bullying and other unacceptable behaviour.

The Building Respectful and Safe Schools Curriculum Guidance has been developed to support schools in implementing curriculum that teaches and promotes interpersonal skills and respectful relationships aligned with the domains of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS). In addition, the curriculum guidance provides an overview of relevant materials to consider when planning the development and delivery of an effective respectful relationships curriculum.
