Children's Services Register

Under provisions of the Children's Services Act 1996 and Children's Services Regulations 2009, the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development maintains a register of licensed children's services. This extract of the Register includes:

  • the name and address of the children's service
  • the name of the licensee
  • the number of the licence
  • the type of licence
  • the maximum number of children who may be cared for or educated by the service at any one time (the licence capacity) (for all licence types except Family Day Care)
  • the date the licence was granted and the date the licence expires.

The types of licensed children's services in the Register are:

Standard licence (SL) service includes long day care services and kindergartens.

Limited hours Type 1 (LH1) means a children’s service that is established to care for or educate each child for no more than 2 hours a day and 6 hours a week. These services include occasional care services and sports & leisure services.

Limited hours Type 2 (LH2) means a children’s service that is established to care for or educate each child for no more than 3 hours a day and 15 hours a week. These services include occasional care services generally operating at neighbourhood/community houses.

Outside school hours care Type 1 (OSHC1) includes care or education for children on school days, generally before and after school care programs, and on pupil-free days.

Outside school hours care Type 2 (OSHC2) includes care or education for children on non-school days generally during school holidays.

Family Day Care (FDC) service is a network of carers who provide care or education in their own homes for other people’s children.

Integrated service (Int) means a children’s service that includes 2 or more types of children’s service.

Ordering a copy of the Register

A copy of the current version of the Register (above) or an extract from the Register may be obtained on payment of the prescribed fee of $35.10. The complete Register may be inspected during normal office hours without charge.
