In 2008 the Government initiated a reform project in Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) services. An advisory group to support the project was established with membership including representatives from ECI services, peak bodies and client advocacy groups and stakeholder consultations were held. The ECI reform project has included the preparation of two core documents – a review of the literature and research evidence base and a review of early childhood intervention services.

The Service Outcomes in Early Childhood Intervention Services (ECIS) project assists the Department and ECIS service providers to understand the extent to which contemporary principles related to service design and service funding, which are believed to have a positive impact on client and family outcomes, have been implemented.

The Department has led the development of an information kit, When a baby’s hearing loss is diagnosed - Fact Sheets for families.
The kit has been designed in collaboration with parents, service providers and other key stakeholders, in response to issues raised by families about access to quality information at the time of their baby or young infant’s diagnosed hearing impairment.
