Best Start and SPPI State Forum

Getting the Message Out: Communication; Coordination; Collaboration; Participation

This forum will share the examples of promising work led by Aboriginal Communities around the themes of Getting the Message Out - Communication, Coordination, Collaboration and Participation. It will focus on examples of coordination and collaboration between services as well as showcase successful practices in engaging dads, parents and carers and mobilising community.

Speakers

Dr Alf Bamblett - Victorian Aboriginal Community Services Association

Dr Bamblett will examine Closing the Gap, the priorities and commitments to strengthen outcomes for Aboriginal children.

Promising Community Practice Workshops

There will be two concurrent sessions focusing on examples of how different services and agencies are consulting and listening to their communities, respectfully working together to change priority into action and promoting positive outcomes for Aboriginal children. These workshops will include hands on practical activities as well as showcasing achievements.  Presentations come from Aboriginal Best Start, playgroup programs, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, Non Government Organisations,, DEECD  KESOs  and Regional Staff and rural and metropolitan services. They will  provide opportunities for sharing of audience experiences.

  • All Best Start partners and facilitators and SPPI facilitators
  • Aboriginal organisations – executive officers, managers and early years staff
  • Aboriginal In Home Support and Home Based Learning Workers
  • Koorie Maternity Services staff
  • Local Government staff - Family and Children's Services Maternal and Child Health Nurses and local government Family and Children’s Services staff
  • Community organisations and services working with children and families
  • DEECD regional and central office staff
