Playgroups and Parent Groups

Playgroups and parent groups are a great opportunity to meet other parents in the area, share experiences, develop friendships and increase you parenting skills. Playgroups also provide opportunities for children to learn and develop through play.

Maternal and Child Health nurses run new parent groups to help parent through the early stages of parenting. Many of these parent groups evolve over time into community playgroups. Playgroups are largely managed by the parents attending the group and parents are responsible for the care of their children when attending playgroup.

In a number of places some families have access to supported playgroups which are run by a paid worker. These playgroups, funded by the Victorian Government, are targeted at disadvantaged children and families who might not normally attend a community playgroup.
