Checkpoint 1.5 - Wikis
Do not overlink words in the wiki entry
DEECD Requirement
DEECD Guideline
Links provide the reader with additional, related information on a specific point should they wish to investigate further. By providing a link the content author is acknowledging the authority of the linked content to the author's point and vice versa and is providing an invitation to the reader to be further informed.
Requirement
Do not include links that are not immediately relevant to the surrounding text and to the topic.
Recommendation
By their nature wikis are usually more information-rich than standard web pages. Authors may feel inclined to load up their content with a lot of hyperlinks to stimulate an increased amount of interaction with their audience. A hyperlink should enhance or emphasize a point. Too many hyperlinks of non-important words contributes to trivializing the content and could result in the important links being "hidden" amongst less important and interesting ones.
