Checkpoint 2.3 - Audio and Video

All video files have a captioned version where neccessary

WCAG 1.0 Priority 1

WCAG Guideline 1. Provide equivalent alternatives to auditory and visual content.

People with hearing impairments and those who cannot hear due to technical limitations such as background noise, absence of speakers or headphones, or having to lower the sound (e.g. in a public library) rely on what they see in a video to understand its contents. In some cases information conveyed in the audio track of the video file is integral to the meaning of the content (e.g. explanation of a scientific experiment with an audio narrative).

Providing the audio in captioned form enables the users to access all the information in the video.

Requirement

Provide synchronised captioning for video where information conveyed in the audio track of the video file is integral to the meaning of the content.

Checking Tool

Play the video to ensure that it contains captions.
