Checkpoint 1.1 - Podcasts
Provide a text equivalent to the podcast audio
WCAG 1.0 Priority 1
WCAG Guideline 1. Provide equivalent alternatives to auditory and visual content.
Text equivalents are not just useful for the audience with hearing difficulties. The podcast audience's listening environment may make reading the text equivalent preferable, such as when there are no headphones and silence in the room is required, the room is noisy, or there is no audio capability on the computer.
Content can also be retained better for some audience members when it is read, especially when technical information is covered, concepts presented are unfamiliar to the listener or the presenter is a non-native speaker of English.
Requirement
Ensure that a transcript of all podcast audio presentations is available.
Recommendation
Place the link to the page containing the transcripts next to the link to get the podcast and make sure that they are visually associated with each other.
Checking Tool
View all web pages containing links to podcasts and check that a transcript appears with each link or a link to a transcript for each is associated with the link to the podcast.
