Underlining of hyperlinks is the default convention for hyperlinks and is used as a visual indicator of hyperlinks. Any text that is underlined and is not a hyperlink could be confusing to the user. Strikethrough and overlining make text difficult to read, especially on the small screens of mobile devices.

Underline, strikethrough or overlining have not been used

Recommendation

The effects may be controlled in the stylesheet so HTML elements may not be present.

Checking Tool

View the page in a mobile device and locate any instances of underlining that is not a hyperlink, strikethrough or overlining. View the source code of the page and look for instances of the <u>, <s>, or <strike>.
