Checkpoint 2.6 - Mobile-PDA

Visible skip links have been provided to bypass the navigation

WCAG 1.0 Priority 3

WCAG WCAG Guideline 13. Provide clear navigation mechanisms.

As a rule, main navigation links are the first thing presented on a web page. If a mechanism to skip over these links is not provided, screen reader users have to listen to and navigate over this information repeatedly for every page until they get to the individual page content. As mobile devices typically do not have pointing devices like a mouse, all navigation must occur using buttons on the keypad, making link navigation sequential. This wastes time and decreases the usability of a web page.

Requirement

Visible skip links have been provided to bypass the navigation

Recommendation

Ensure that a hyperlink called Skip to content or something similar is provided at the top of every page and that it takes the user to the start of the page body content.

Checking Tool

View the page in a mobile browser to ensure that visible Skip to content link is provided.
