Checkpoint 4.3 - Mobile-PDA

High resolution images have not been used

DEECD Requirement

DEECD Guideline

Mobile devices are constrained by the time taken to download content from the server and by the size of the screen, amongst other things. High resolution images do not provide the same quality on the very small mobile device screens as they do on desktop monitors, yet the density of the pixels make these image unduly large to download, costing the user time and money.

Requirement

High resolution images have not been used

Recommendation

Optimize all images for the mobile environment in an image editing program and delivery different images to the mobile environment using targeted CSS.

Checking Tool

View the images in an image editing program and ensure their resolution is set at low. View the page in a mobile device and verify that the images are clear, readable and understandable and do not suffer loss of quality because they are low resolution.
