Checkpoint 7.3 - Mobile-PDA

Where possible, pre-selected default values have been provided

WCAG 1.0 Priority 3

WCAG Guideline 10. Use interim solutions.

Due to difficulties with using mobile device keyboards and keypads for alphanumeric data input and the error-prone nature of this task, the user interface must minimize user input as far as possible. This can be done using dropdown lists, radio buttons, checkboxes and hyperlinks.

Where possible, pre-selected default values have been provided

The defaults should be the most common choice that users will make and not the first item in an alphabetical list. If possible, if a user has already visited this page before, use their previous entries as defaults.

It should be possible for a user to select items using navigation keys and/or keypad numeric input by assigning numbers from 0 to 9 to input selection tasks.

Checking Tool

View the page on a mobile device and look for any free-text fields in forms.

View the source code of the page and look for instances of <input> with the attribute type="text" to see that the value attribute has been populated, and, with <textarea> elements, to see that they contain text between the opening and closing elements.
