Checkpoint 5.22 - Mobile-PDA

If the file is not of the format html, gif or jpg, the format and size of the file is included in the link

DEECD Requirement

DEECD Guideline

Due to the cost to the user in terms of download time, bandwidth usage and money when items are presented on a mobile device, the user should be aware of what components are to be displayed on the site or downloaded to the device. In addition, mobile devices do not have the same functionality and applications installed and may not be able to handle some types of files. Downloading these wastes the user's resources. To avoid this, any items other than html, gif or jpg, which are standard features of mobile devices, should be indicated to the user so a choice of downloading or accessing can be made.

Requirement

If the file is not of the format html, gif or jpg, the format and size of the file is included in the link

Recommendation

For file types other than html, gif or jpg, indicate within the link what the file type is. It is also a good idea to indicate the size of the file.

Checking Tool

View the page in a mobile device and check each link to verify that they all lead to html, gif or jpg objects unless the link explicitly identifies a different file type.
