Checkpoint 3.8 - Core
Links to secure areas requiring password access are appropriately indicated
DEECD Requirement
DEECD Guideline
Clear link text is essential for users to decide whether they want to follow a link and to understand what happens when they do. Letting users know that the target of the hyperlink is a secured area allows them to decide whether they want to follow this link and what authentication details are required to access its destination.
Providing unambiguous information about the target of the link and any unexpected website actions such as user name and password inquiry increases usability of the web content.
Requirement
The type of information that needs to be supplied in order to access a secured area must included next to the link.
Checking Tool
View web pages in a browser to ensure all links to secure areas are indicated.
