It is important to highlight fields that are mandatory so that users understand which fields they must fill out. By highlighting the field using colour and an asterisk it is both visually conspicuous and can be accessed by people who cannot determine the difference in colour.

Requirement

Indicate all mandatory fields with a red asterisk prior to the text label of the mandatory field. The use of a red asterisk for mandatory fields on the form must be indicated to the user at the start of each form.
