Checkpoint 1.6 - Blogs

Use clear and simple language

WCAG 1.0 Priority 1

WCAG Guideline 14. Ensure that documents are clear and simple.

Running diaries and commentaries can often be very large and blog entries have a tendency to contain a lot of text. Blogs benefit from being a deliberately considered document during authoring and need to be clearly written to get and hold the attention of readers of the blog.

Requirement

Clear and simple language has been used in the blog entry.

Recommendation

Ensure that sentences are not overly long and complexly structured. Keep thoughts and comments relevant and edit text to remove any verbose sentences and paragraphs. A blog has a diary style and is a more informal document than a web page or RSS feed, however consider the attention span of your audience both when constructing sentences and when considering the length of your blog entry.

Checking Tool

Read the blog in a browser to ensure that it is reader friendly.
