Early Childhood Intervention Services (ECIS) for children from birth to school entry with a disability or developmental delay and their families are provided by non-government early childhood intervention agencies funded by the Department of Education and Training (DET) and by DET managed Specialist Children's Services Teams in each region.
Services provided to children and families include information and support, planning and service coordination and individual and group therapy and education. Services aim to provide parents and families with the knowledge, skills and support to meet the needs of their child and to optimise the child's development and ability to participate in family and community life.
ECIS work collaboratively with universal and primary services to facilitate early identification, referral and secondary consultation and to ensure access and participation in a broad range of family, community and professional resources available for all children and families.
All services are provided using a family centred approach, recognising the importance of working in partnership with the family.
