The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development provides support to children to participate in a quality kindergarten program delivered by a qualified early childhood teacher in the year before they commence school. While most kindergartens are able to recruit qualified early childhood teachers, some rural kindergartens experience difficulty recruiting suitably qualified staff. To address this issue the Victorian Government has provided a financial incentive since 2006 for early childhood teachers to take up employment in rural kindergartens.
Incentives of up to $6000 are available to early childhood teachers who commence work in a kindergarten in rural Victoria. These incentives are one-off payments awarded on an application basis to early childhood teachers who have secured employment in a funded kindergarten in rural Victoria no earlier than April 2009. Successful applicants must agree to continue to work in a funded rural kindergarten for at least two years.
Rural kindergartens are considered to be any funded kindergarten program in a rural region of Victoria*, from large regional centres to small rural communities.
Applications are invited from professionals who have commenced employment in a funded kindergarten program in rural Victoria no earlier than April 2009.
