The Victorian Government is committed to the provision of quality early childhood education and care services across the state. This includes providing support to the workforce through scholarships to assist early childhood educators to upgrade their qualifications, and incentives to encourage early childhood teachers to take up employment opportunities in long day care and in rural kindergartens.
Current opportunities for scholarships and employment incentives are shown below.
Scholarships for Existing Workers in Licensed Children’s Services have been developed to support unqualified staff working in licensed children’s services to take up opportunities to attain Certificate III in Children’s Services. There are 200 Scholarships available in 2009/10.
Existing staff working in children’s services — including Family Day Care and Outside School Hours Care — who do not hold a relevant qualification in early childhood education and care and who have enrolled in a Certificate III in Children’s Services course at a TAFE Institute or Registered Training Organisation are eligible to apply.
Successful applicants will receive a scholarship of up to $1000.

The Early Childhood Teacher Scholarships for Pathway Students scheme provides a scholarship to diploma‑qualified staff employed in long day care settings to upgrade their qualification to an early childhood teaching degree. On graduating, scholarship recipients are required to work for two years as an early childhood teacher in a funded kindergarten program in a long day care centre.
Successful applicants will receive a scholarship of up to $6000 over two years and access to literacy support during the period of study. In addition, their employer may be eligible to receive reimbursement of the cost of releasing staff to undertake part of their study requirements.

The Incentives for Early Childhood Teachers in Long Day Care scheme aims to attract early childhood teachers to work in long day care settings. Successful applicants are required to work for two years as a teacher in a funded kindergarten program in a long day care centre.
Successful applicants will receive an incentive of up to $12,000.

The Incentives for Early Childhood Teachers in Rural Sessional Kindergarten scheme aims to attract early childhood teachers to work in rural sessional kindergarten. Successful applicants will receive an incentive of up to $6000 and will be required to work as an early childhood teacher in a rural kindergarten for two years.
