The Career Change Program, one of a number of initiatives within the Smarter Schools National Partnership, enables suitably qualified professionals and tradespeople with relevant experience to gain employment as a teacher trainee in priority Victorian government schools.
The Program was developed to assist schools that have experience difficulty in attracting suitably qualified teachers. Schools were invited to express interest in participating in the Program and the vacancies subsequently advertised. Online applications closed Wednesday 21 September 2001. In order to participate applicants need to have been successful in their application to one of the career change vacancies.
Through the Career Change Program trainees receive financial support and paid study leave as they combine supervised classroom duties with study towards a teaching qualification during a two-year training period.
As a trainee, you participate in a preparatory summer school before commencing classroom duties at the beginning of the school year. You will also undertake an induction program in your school and receive ongoing support from an experienced school-based mentor or mentors.
If the two-year training period is successfully completed, you will be offered an ongoing teaching position in the school where you have trained. You may also be eligible for a retention incentive if you continue to be employed at the appointing school two years after the completion of your teacher education course.
