Career Structure and Benefits

Career structure

Teachers make a significant difference to the lives and interests of children. The Department recognises that it is essential to support teachers' professional growth and development through providing an environment where:

  • the contribution that a teacher makes to the education of children and the life of a school is recognised
  • school expectations are clearly stated
  • professional development objectives and priorities are effectively identified.

All teachers, including those beginning as well as those returning to their career, are well supported by professional development, including school and regional induction programs and leadership development programs.

Classroom teacher positions are classified within one classification level with three salary ranges: graduate, accomplished and expert. As you gain experience your contribution to the school program beyond the classroom increases. Promotional opportunities are also possible through leading teacher classification.

The principal class comprises the following classifications: principal, assistant principal, and liaison principal.
