Years 10 to 12
In Years 10 to 12 students continue exploring pathways for the future to equip them for tertiary education or training and employment.
Students can follow different pathways:
- VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) - is a hands-on option for Years 11 and 12 students, offering practical work-related experience. Within VCAL students can undertake an apprenticeship or traineeship.
- VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education ) - provides pathways to further study at university, TAFE (Technical and Further Education) and the world of work. Within VCAL students can undertake an apprenticeship or traineeship.
Making choices
For students, making the best choices involves:
- knowing yourself - what you like (your interests), what you are good at (your skills and abilities), what is important to you (values)
- getting to understand the world of work - what’s out there
- learning how to make decisions
- finding out how to achieve objectives.
Getting help
Parents and carers play a vital role in guiding and advising students about career options. Parents’ knowledge of a young person’s particular interests and abilities helps them when choosing what to do beyond school.
School careers teachers and year-level coordinators are available to provide career and course information. Schools also provide resources such as career guides, university and TAFE directories, website resources and employment information.
