Supporting Your Child

Helping with homework

Homework is an opportunity for parents to participate in their child’s education. You, in partnership with the school, can encourage your child to establish good homework patterns from early primary school. Schools usually advise parents of homework expectations at the beginning of the year and provide a copy of the school’s homework policy.

For information on what homework types your child may receive at school, see: Life at School – Homework

Learning at home

You can make a difference by supporting what your child learns at school and helping them to learn at home. For before school and primary literacy and maths support, see: 201 Literacy and Maths Tips

Premiers’ Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is for all Victorian students in Prep to Year 10. The aim of the Challenge is to promote a love of reading. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely.

Online Resources

The Department has identified a large range of websites with quality information, activities, information for projects and educational games for your child. You can explore these resources together, see FUSE’s:
