Fathers matter and a new publication designed just for them ensures their role is given the prominence it deserves.

Minister for Children and Early Childhood Development Maxine Morand said fathers played a vital role in shaping their child’s development.

“Being a parent is one of the most important and rewarding life experiences and the role of fathers cannot be underestimated, particularly when it comes to a child’s social and emotional development,” she said.

The publication offers practical information for fathers on bonding with your children, everyday fatherhood, play activities and parenting after separation.

The booklet also includes links to further information and services for fathers.

“Parenthood can be a challenging experience, particularly for new fathers who may be anxious about their role and how to balance work and their family,” Ms Morand said.

The booklet was produced by the Parenting Research Centre (PRC), and copies are available from Parentline by calling 132 289.
