Free Oral Health Examinations

From baby teeth to braces, the oral health of your child means more than just an attractive smile.

Poor oral health and untreated oral diseases and conditions can have a significant impact on quality of life – and in many cases, the condition of the mouth mirrors the condition of the body as a whole.

But did you know all Victorian children are eligible for public oral health services from birth until the start of secondary school?

The Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne (RDHM) is Victoria’s leading provider of public dental care. Families can access their services at their Carlton location, or at over 60 community clinics throughout Victoria.

This service is free in the undergraduate teaching clinic, where fully qualified oral health professionals oversee all work. Some children may be seen in the general clinic, which costs $28 per child for a complete course of general care, up to a maximum of $112 per family for children without a concession card.

General care is free for children and young people until age 18 who:

  • are concession card holders
  • are under care provided by the Children, Youth and Families division of the Department of Human Services
  • attend a special school
  • are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, or
  • are newly arrived refugees and asylum seekers.

Specialist treatment – if required – may attract further fees.
