Gifted Education
Government schools can provide a number of education options for gifted students.
Schools can structure individual learning programs for gifted and high potential students. This includes offering options such as early entry into school, single-subject acceleration, year level advancements, mentoring, concurrent enrolment between school and university, Victorian Certification of Education (VCE) extension studies and early admissions into tertiary education.
For more information, see: Gifted Education
There are schools that also specialised schools that offer a particular area of learning, such as the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS), which has a specialist focus on dance and music. For more information, see: Specialised Schools
Select Entry Accelerated Learning Program (SEAL)
There are currently 34 government secondary schools that offer a Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL) program to high-performing students in Victoria.
Work in core subjects is accelerated for SEAL students, allowing them to complete Years 7–10 in three years and to do more Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) subjects in Years 11 and 12, or even university subjects.
