About the Research Branch
Under the direction of the Department's Research Committee, the Research Branch is located within the Office for Policy, Research and Innovation. The Branch plays a key role in supporting the work of the Research Committee, including implementation of the Department's Research Strategy.
Research Branch functions
The functions of the Research Branch are to:
- provide advice on trends and developments in teaching and learning to inform strategic directions and current practice
- undertake or commission major research projects within agreed strategy
- review and monitor available research to understand how different students best learn including the impact of teaching, community and individual circumstances on learning
- integrate a research based approach into departmental planning and work with relevant education authorities to ensure that research shapes direction in learning and teaching
- assess and process applications for research in schools.
Research Branch key deliverables
The key deliverables of the Research Branch include:
- Implementation of the Department's Research Strategy
- Knowledge Sharing Strategy: publishing and identifying research resources to ensure that research influences and enhances directions in learning and teaching
- Capacity Building Strategy: development of materials to support the professional needs of departmental staff whose responsibilities include undertaking and/or commissioning research at school, regional and central levels and developing initiatives and policy
- Management of the Research in Victorian Government Schools Program: management and validation of proposals for Research in Schools
