About the Research Branch

Under the direction of the Department's Research Committee, the Research Branch is located within the Office for Policy, Research and Innovation. The Branch plays a key role in supporting the work of the Research Committee, including implementation of the Department's Research Strategy.

Research Branch functions

The functions of the Research Branch are to:

  • provide advice on trends and developments in teaching and learning to inform strategic directions and current practice
  • undertake or commission major research projects within agreed strategy
  • review and monitor available research to understand how different students best learn including the impact of teaching, community and individual circumstances on learning
  • integrate a research based approach into departmental planning and work with relevant education authorities to ensure that research shapes direction in learning and teaching
  • assess and process applications for research in schools.
