Office for Resource and Infrastructure

The Office for Resources and Infrastructure is responsible for the development and implementation of resource and infrastructure policies and procedures for the Department in the areas of finance, infrastructure, information technology, human resources and corporate services. The Office provides direct services to the Department's corporate offices and to government schools.

The Office consists of seven divisions:

Financial Services Division

The key functions of the Financial Services Division are to:

  • establish the appropriate financial management environment within the Department, the statutory authorities in the portfolio and government schools;
  • advise on issues which might impact on the financial health of the Department and provide financial information and analysis to support decision-making;
  • design and implement financial management principles, processes and systems to ensure that managers have the necessary support to execute their financial management responsibilities; and
  • lead efforts to ensure the Department’s compliance with accounting standards, financial and taxation legislation and financial governance principles.

Human Resources Division

The key functions of the Human Resources Division are to:

  • provide strategic human resource policy advice;
  • systems support and management; and
  • consulting support and service delivery to the Department and principals of government schools

This includes policies for effective human resources attraction, recruitment, development, retention, wellbeing and management to ensure a high-quality and diverse workforce.

Corporate Services Division

This Division provides and manages internal business functions and services that underpin and support all other areas of the Department. The Division's key functions are:

  • accounting services;
  • building and administrative services;
  • corporate systems;
  • liability management;
  • payroll and projects;
  • purchasing advice and policy; and
  • human resource management system upgrade project.

Resource and Infrastructure Strategy Division

This Division provides resource management analysis and advice and undertakes key strategic change projects. The Division's key functions are:

lead budget coordination, including coordination and drafting of Ministers’ submissions and presentations;

  • in conjunction with Financial Services Division, lead resource management across the Department, delivering improved value for money;
  • lead the Department’s infrastructure strategy and implement the Asset Approval Framework;
  • lead the Department’s Multi-Year Strategy; and
  • implement the Department’s three to five-year Resource Plan.

 

Information Technology Division

This Division is responsible for the information and communication technology infrastructure, applications and services that support the effective management and operation of the Department. The Division's key functions are to:

  • provide advice and support for devolved information and communications technology decision-making within common standards and approaches; and
  • co-ordinate ICT procurement and infrastructure provision to government schools.

 

Chief Information Officer

The Chief Information Office provides a specific focus on the strategy and policy aspects of information technology provision. The Division has portfolio-wide responsibility to optimise the investment in information and communications technology.

 

Infrastructure Division

The key functions of the Infrastructure Division are to:

  • provide innovative school facilities that support the delivery of improved educational programs in schools and support community building;
  • manage the delivery of school capital works programs and associated regulatory compliance, including planning for new schools and property transactions;
  • provide infrastructure support, including student transport/buses, teacher housing and school administrative system support;
  • manage the emergency and security infrastructure, including an all-hours communications centre and critical incident follow-up service; and
  • plan for reconfigured delivery arrangements to improve student learning outcomes, for example, merged sites and revised organisational relationships.
