2006-07 Victorian State Budget: $11.6 Million will Build Leadership in Schools

$11.6 million will be allocated to build the capacity of school leaders to further improve the learning and teaching of students.
The Bracks Government recognises the importance of school leadership and the contribution of a highly skilled workforce in maximising the results for students in the government school system.
The capacities and commitment of teachers and principals are vital to the quality of educational outcomes.
The Victorian government education system is fortunate to have high quality teachers and leaders working with half a million student in 1600 schools.
This initiative will maintain and further enhance the quality of classroom teaching over coming years.
The allocation of $11.6 million will fund development programs for assistant principals, and other aspiring leaders to assist them to further develop leadership and school-improvement strategies that will result in improved student learning.
Measures will include:
- Scholarships and mentoring, coaching, and other opportunities that build leadership abilities for assistant principals and other aspiring school leaders; and
- Leadership training for other teachers.
