Creating sustainable schools
through a framework that helps schools to link with organisations in the community.
The ResourceSmart Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative Victoria (ResourceSmart AuSSI Vic) is a Victorian government initiative that helps schools benefit from embedding sustainability in everything they do.The initiative takes a whole school approach to show how and where schools can link with organisations in their wider community to support their sustainability journey.Through ResourceSmart AuSSI Vic schools can take action to minimise waste, save energy and water, promote biodiversity and reduce green house emissions.ResourceSmart AuSSI Vic has five modules. Core is the foundation module and must be completed first. Schools can complete the other four modules - energy, waste, water and biodiversity - in any order, or even at the same time.ResourceSmart AuSSI Vic can help your school track its sustainability journey and identify savings made. The initiative helps schools reduce costs while giving students the opportunity to learn about sustainability in a tangible and realistic environment. ResourceSmart AuSSI Vic recognises and rewards the hard work and performance of your school through Sustainability Certification that allows schools to reach for the stars! ResourceSmart AuSSI Vic also recognises and rewards schools through the ResourceSmart Schools Awards program. In 2011, the Victorian government committed to build on the existing ResourceSmart AuSSI Vic framework. Sustainability Victoria and the Department are working in partnership on this initiative.More information:ResourceSmart AuSSI Vic online system
