Helping your child’s transition to school

Transition: A Positive Start to School

Starting primary school is a significant step in a child’s life and one that should be a positive and supportive experience.

The aim of the Transition: A Positive Start to School initiative is to assist in a child’s transition from kindergarten to primary school and to help them adapt successfully to their new school environments.

Prior to starting primary school, parents and educators will be provided with learning and development statements that will outline the developmental needs, strengths and interests of each child.

This initiative will significantly improve parents’ and teachers’ ability to assist in a child’s transition into school and in a school’s ability to plan individual support programs for students with special requirements.

For children with disabilities and additional needs, the Sharing Our Journey initiative will be extended to support their transition to kindergarten as well as to primary school.

Transition: A Positive Start to School will be launched in 2010 and resources will be made available in Term 3, for children attending school in 2010.
