ABC’s 7:30 Report’s Old school revolution

News bulletin: 11 September 2009

Stories of struggles are a common thread in Dandenong's social fabric, the Melbournian outer south-eastern suburb playing host to a cocktail of social issues and a high crime rate, with assaults and drug offences soaring over the past year.

Despite this, Dandenong High School is leading Australia’s education revolution to create a cutting edge facility that features lower teacher-student ratios, open-plan architecture to help inspire creativity and will boast 66 different languages on one site.

Most learning areas are open plan, with large windows facing into a central commons room.

The future plays a crucial part of the school's design and priorities. The school won an international award this year for its outstanding school facility.
