Music students rewarded
News bulletin: 9 September 2009
Applications are now open for the Margaret Schofield Memorial Scholarship.
Providing assistance for ongoing music study at a tertiary institution, the annual scholarship is open to all government school secondary students completing Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) Music Solo Performance this year.
The $5,000 scholarship was established by the family of one of Australia's leading pianists, the late Margaret Schofield, in recognition of her achievements as a musician and her commitment to music education.
Applications for the 2010 scholarship close on 30 October 2009.
The selection panel take into consideration each applicant’s commitment to music and their future career in music performance, as well as the student’s study score for VCE Music: Solo Performance.
Last year two students were awarded scholarships; Cheryl Durongpisitkul and Luke Stevenson (pictured).
Cheryl is now studying at the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts and plays alto saxophone. Jazz is her preferred genre.
Luke studies at the University of Melbourne, Music Faculty, and plays the violin, viola and piano.
