Kids pump up their tyres and get active in October
News bulletin: 05 October 2009
For the whole of October, children are invited to join the Walk and Wheel-a-thon challenge and walk or ride their way to school.
Another initiative run through Ride2School is the Active Schools Challenge, which runs throughout the year and can be joined by schools at any time.
Schools that register for this challenge must include bike riding in the school program, encourage students to walk and ride to school and participate in at least one Ride2School event a year.
If a school reaches the targets set in the Active School Challenge they will be sent a Ride2School sign which recognises their active transport efforts in the community.
As well as these cycling initiatives, students can also participate in their own unique challenge on Ride to Work Day, held on Wednesday 14 October. For this day, the National Schools Challenge is running an award for the primary or secondary school with the highest percentage of students that ride to school.
To be eligible for the award, schools must participate in the Ride2School Hands Up! survey on 14 October 2009.
