Visit us at the Royal Melbourne Show
News bulletin: 15 September 2009
Featuring creative workshops and the chance to test new educational technologies, the Department’s stand at the Royal Melbourne Show this year will definitely be worth checking out for both kids and parents.
As well as great examples of learning technology, our exhibit has a range of activities and workshops available for children of all ages.
The activities program includes workshops with popular Melbourne illustrators Judith Rossell and Sue Degennaro where children will get the opportunity to make flip books and bookmarks as they learn about illustration.
The Chinese Museum of Melbourne will hold Chinese knot and lantern making workshops to teach children about Chinese culture and there are a range of puzzles, games and activities specifically for children under five.
You’ll also be able to have fun with educational games and software on a bank of iMac computers. For the very young there is a range of literacy and alphabet games and the Kahootz animation software allows students to create their own games, movies and soundtracks. The computers will have access to the Connect website too, which includes pages of online games and educational resources for children pre-school age as well as for primary and secondary students.
Teamboard interactive whiteboards in the exhibit will showcase the popular Easy Teach software used by many teachers in Victorian schools. The software contains a variety of interactive classroom activities and educational games. Your children will be able to show you how these whiteboards are used in their classrooms.
With access to a range of information for parents, interactive reading pods with talking books and Young Readers Program books, and examples of great new school design and building projects, the Department’s exhibit is worth a stop on your busy show day.
The show runs from Thursday 17 September to Sunday 27 September and our exhibit will be in the Victorian Government Expo Centre (VGEC).
